MEIS was established in 1999 and provides test witnessing, inspection and certification services for elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts and other mechanized conveyances. The company has been led by Kirk Pohl since 2006 and is one of the largest elevator inspection companies in the Midwest.

ATIS, a division of American Testing & Inspection Services, is currently the second largest conveyance inspection company in the United States. The company provides safety inspection and test witnessing services on conveyances and plans to expand into new service verticals in the future. In an effort to significantly expand its footprint, ATIS is hiring qualified elevator inspectors and making select acquisitions throughout the country.

“This is a significant acquisition for ATIS and cements our position as the market leader here in the Midwest,” said J.A. Marchack, President of ATIS Elevator. “Kirk assembled a great team, and we are excited to have them join ATIS as we expand our delivery of the nation’s best multi-jurisdictional inspection program.”

“ATIS has accumulated some of the most experienced and knowledgeable inspectors in the business, and I’ve known many of them for years,” said Kirk Pohl, President of MEIS, in a statement.

“We’ve been courting Kirk for over two years and are extremely pleased to have closed this acquisition,” said Chip Smith, Chairman of ATIS. “MEIS was ATIS’s most formidable competitor in the Midwest, and we are excited about the opportunities that exist by combining forces. This is great news for our employees, customers and the riding public.”
