ATIS Acquires Florida-Based Elevator Inspection Company

St. Louis-based ATIS Elevator Inspections, a subsidiary of American Testing & Inspection Services, continues their agressive growth by acquiring A-1 Elevator Inspection, Inc., based in the Tampa, Florida area. Last month ATIS acquired Columbia, South Carolina-based Palmetto Safety Inspections, LLC.

With 7 Qualified Elevator Inspectors, A-1 has provided consulting, test witnessing, inspection and certification services for elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts and other mechanized conveyances throughout Florida since 2000. Charlie Slater, President of A-1, has joined ATIS as a Vice President with initial responsibility for the company’s Florida operations.

“ATIS made a significant foray into the national inspection market last year and it quickly became evident they shared A-1’s uncompromising commitment to employees, customers and the general public,” said Slater. “Partnering with ATIS significantly increases the resources available to our employees and customers, and I look forward to enhancing our team’s services and continuing ATIS’s growth through the effective allocation and deployment of these additional resources.”

ATIS launched operations in January 2013 and has grown to over forty-five employees. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the company is currently providing safety inspection and test witnessing services in more than eighteen states. With plans to significantly expand its geographic footprint, ATIS is seeking to hire qualified candidates and make select acquisitions throughout the country.

“This is a pivotal acquisition for ATIS and firmly establishes our presence in a robust and growing third-party inspection market,” said J.A. Marchack, who joined ATIS Elevator as President in February of this year. “Acquiring A-1 further enhances ATIS’s ability to offer a superior multi-jurisdictional inspection program to an underserved market, and we are very excited about this acquisition.”

“Under Charlie’s leadership, A-1 experienced double-digit revenue growth in each of the past 3 years,” said Chip Smith, Chairman of ATIS. “In addition to having a successful track record managing A-1, Charlie has been deeply involved in elevator safety organizations, and he developed significant expertise on national safety code and third-party issues. His experience and reputation will be instrumental in ATIS’s future growth plans, and we look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with Charlie and his team.”
