Ever since Pelican Builders announced details about The Wilshire at River Oaks District in February, consumer interest in the 17-story high-rise continues to grow, as evidenced by a flurry of pre-sales that have exceeded the developers’ projections. A new sales center at 2049 Westcreek Lane will open on Wednesday, April 22nd.

The Wilshire at River Oaks DistrictPelican Builders and its equity partner, an affiliate of The Carlyle Group, are on track to break ground in June. “Of all the projects we have ever built in Houston, The Wilshire is destined to become the most significant landmark building developed by our company,” said Pelican Builders principle Robert Bland, “With its adjacent location to River Oaks District, The Wilshire is sure to provide an unmatched condominium ownership experience. We acknowledge local concerns regarding the energy industry and its impact on our market, but we have been advised this will be a brief period of correction specific to the energy industry. Houston will persevere and continue to evolve into one of the premier cities in the country. Our location within proximity to River Oaks District and confidence in Houston long term has led us to charge ahead.”

Both Pelican Builders, whose 30-year track is credited for nearly half of Houston’s luxury high rises, and The Carlyle Group affiliate consider the project a long-term investment in a city that continues to attract diverse industries, international commerce, and luxury home buyers looking for sophisticated housing options in the vortex of the city’s most desirable lifestyle offerings.

To that end, The Wilshire will give home buyers 14 unique floor plans from which to choose, ranging from 2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms averaging 1,300-square-feet; 2 bedrooms / 2 ½ bathrooms — some with a dedicated study — averaging 1,750-square-feet; 3 bedrooms / 3 ½ bathrooms averaging 2,300-square-feet; and 12 deluxe penthouse residences with 3 bedrooms / 3 ½ bathrooms that feature formal and informal living areas averaging 3,500-square-feet. All 96 residences in the luxury building will have balconies and are arranged with primary views facing west or downtown views facing east. Pricing will range from $800,000 to $2,990,000.

“The tower is designed to evoke modern elegance and welcome home owners with a generous porte cochere and tall glass reception lobby. The offset floorplate allows for dramatic corner views from the majority of residences and modulates visual space between neighboring buildings,” said Rick Birkinshaw, Senior Associate at Kirsksey Architecture, who is designing the contemporary high rise, “Each facade is a balanced composition of residentially scaled window openings punctuated by vertical expanses of glass meant to celebrate high-rise living while maintaining the identity of the individual residence. The primary materials used include precast concrete, energy efficient low-e glazing and coated aluminum.”

Future residents can look forward to multiple venues for indoor and outdoor amenities, including a morning room with coffee service and a private party room with wine lockers; an indoor/outdoor fitness and casual lounge space with bar and private dining; and an enviable 25,145-square-foot landscaped pool deck above the parking garage featuring a 75-foot lap pool with adjacent wet deck, cabana rooms and a covered grilling kitchen.
