Interior Design Giant, Steelcase, Names Jim Keane President
Steelcase Inc. has appointed James P. Keane as president and a member of the board of directors, effective April 22. He has served as chief operating officer since November 2012 and will continue to hold that title.
The previous president and chief executive officer —James P. Hackett — will continue to serve as the company’s CEO.
Keane is responsible for the design, engineering, development, manufacturing, sales, and distribution of the company’s brands. Previously, he was president of the Steelcase Group in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. His earlier company roles included chief financial officer and head of research and development.
Prior to joining Steelcase, Keane was a consultant with McKinsey and Company for five years and held positions with Peat Marwick Mitchell and Co. and Motorola Inc.
Steelcase’s business focuses on three core elements of an office environment: interior architecture, furniture and technology.
